The University of Tampa’s Kappa Omega chapter of Sigma Chi collected donations in the Vaughn Center last week in an effort to organize care packages to send to US troops overseas. The fraternity raised over $900 and received a number of donation items from students between Nov. 2 and Nov. 6. Email Submitter Share with others

Thursday, Oct. 22 the Sigma Chi fraternity recreated the classic game in order to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Sigma Chis Martin Erbele dressed up as Barker and used similar lines from the original show. Email Submitter Share with others

One in Heart and Purpose: The Founders and the Founding of Sigma Chi Fraternity is an historical book in three parts. First is a compilation of the dedicatory biographies by Joseph C. Nate which were to be used as introductory pieces to his seven-volume The History of Sigma Chi: 1855-1925. Derby Days is a week-long philanthropy event, said chairman Dan Grosskopf. Sororities on campus are each a team, and they compete in events to raise money for charity and have fun throughout the week doing so. Sigma Chi seeks to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Grosskopf said previous Derby Days raised up to $5,000. Email Submitter Share with others

We are pleased to announce that on November 6th and 7th, we will be celebrating our chapters 85th Anniversary at UF. Our football team will face off against Vanderbilt that weekend. We will be having a reception on Friday, November 6th at the Sweetwater Inn from 6:30-10:30 PM and a hog roast on Saturday, November 7th at the Sigma Chi house. Brandon Hendrick was an ASU student and a member of the Sigma Chi Epsilon Upsilon Chapter. Brandon grew up in Vancouver, Washington where he excelled academically and athletically. In high school he was diagnosed with osteo-sarcoma (bone cancer)… a diagnosis that dashed his dreams of playing in the NBA but did not dampen his love for Arizona and his desire to attend Arizona State University. The Sigma Chi fraternity will be hosting its first annual charity BBQ in remembrance of Kevin Clearly, a former president of the chapter who worked on the 84th floor of Tower 2 of the World Trade Center. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the fraternity’s house, 221 Langdon St., and all proceeds will go to the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund. Email Submitter Share with others

The start of the fall semester means two things: a new class of clueless, wide-eyed freshmen will begin its four-year journey at Emory and, more importantly, the opening of the intramural softball season. 1. Washington Nationals hitter Josh Willingham has hit two grand slams against the Milwaukee Brewers, becoming the 13th major leaguer to do it and first since 2003.
